Annual Exam

Most women should have an exam annually, which allows the physician to evaluate each individual patient’s health status. A complete pelvic and breast exam is done, a Pap Smear (if indicated) and other related health counseling such as nutrition, birth control or menopause.

Most insurance companies pay for wellness/preventative care, but a few companies consider it routine coverage. Prior to your visit, it is important that you know whether or not you have wellness benefits. If you are unsure, please contact your insurance company.

Birth control

Various methods of birth control are prescribed, depending on the individual patient and her lifestyle. Some options are:

  • The birth control pill - There are many different pills offered with varying levels of hormones. Your physician will discuss with you your specific needs.
  • The Patch - An adhesive patch worn for 21 pays per month. It is a great alternative to the pill, if you desire.
  • Mirena - A new generation intra-uterine device that is inserted and can remain in place for several years. Many patients have found great success with this option.
  • Tubal Ligation - A permanent method of birth control in which the fallopian tubes are either ligated (cut) or banded. Although occasionally an individual may be successful in having this procedure reversed, it should definitely be considered a permanent means of sterilization. Tubal ligations can be done during the same hospitalization as the birth of your baby. For the nonpregnant patient, it is a simple outpatient procedure, sometimes called “band-aid surgery” due to the small size of the incision made by the laparoscope.

Bone Density Studies

Bone Density Studies help your doctor determine the health of your bones. They are simple, safe scans that take approximately 20 minutes. Women who have gone through menopause may be at risk for osteoporosis, thin bones. Bone loss accelerates after menopause. In fact, one-third of a woman’s lifetime bone loss can occur in the first five years after menopause. As bones become thinner and weaker, hip, wrists and spine fractures can occur. The good news is if bone loss is detected early, its effects may be prevented, and in some cases, reduced.

Cholesterol Screening

Coronary heart disease remains the leading cause of death of women in America with 40% of all female deaths in the United States occurring from coronary vascular disease, heart attack and stroke. By identifying the patient’s cholesterol level, we work together to recognize important risk factors and improve overall health.

Metabolic Rate

Excess weight, in time, can lead to Type II diabetes, hypertension and even heart disease, but for individuals who are overweight or obese, losing weight can be a frustrating personal struggle. We offer MedGem, a simple test that accurately and quickly measures oxygen consumption to determine your resting metabolic rate (RMR) or the number of calories your body burns at rest. In just a few minutes, MedGem determines your metabolism to assess your body’s internal efficiency and helps you understand your nutritional needs for effective weight loss and fitness.
